If you’ve seen the trailer above, malamang eto ang tinatanong mo sa sarili mo ngayon:

“Huh… Nyeta, ano yun?!”

Well, hindi rin ako masyadong sure hanggang ngayon at medyo pinoprocess pa nung utak ko yung napanuod ko but I think you just saw Matt Damon with a man-bun dressed in Chinese armor trying to defend the Great Wall of China from dragon-like creatures. Oo wala talagang sense pero yan yung nakita mo. Did the Mongols somehow mutate into lizard-like creatures? You mean to tell me na sa dami ng magaling mag kung fu sa Ancient China, kailangan pa nila magpatulong kay Jason Bourne? Don’t ask me how a guy with an American accent ended up in China centuries before there even was an “America” kasi hindi ko rin alam paano ko papaliwanag sayo to.

Pero eto na ba ang trend ngayon? Kapag naging hit to, malamang maraming gagaya. At bakit naman tayo magpapahuli di ba? Hindi ba tayo puwedeng gumawa ng local version nito? Sure ba tayong hindi ginawa yung walls ng Intramuros para di makapasok yung mga army ng mga tikbalang? Actually, oo sure tayo. Pero kung puwede nilang gawin yun for The Great Wall, why not do it for other landmarks as well?

The premise might make you chuckle, but The Great Wall is directed by Zhang Yimou one of the most acclaimed filmmakers in Chinese cinema. Wala pa akong napanuod na movie niya na hindi maganda. But there’s a first time for everything so we’ll know soon enough. The Great Wall will be shown in cinemas on February 2017.
